Hi, I'm Derek Slavin, a Scottish-born artist now living in beautiful Newquay, Cornwall. Creativity has been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember. After careers as a tiler, painter and decorator, I've returned to my lifelong passion for art and now dedicate my time to creating original abstract and coastal-inspired pieces.

My work is deeply influenced by the sea, nature, and the textures I discover in the world around me. Having lived and travelled extensively, including years in Gibraltar, Spain, Australia, Key West, and aboard cruise ships, I've experienced the incredible colours, moods, and movement of oceans across the globe. Those memories continue to inspire my paintings today.

I love experimenting with texture and mixed media techniques, particularly crackle effects that give each piece depth, character, and individuality. My ADHD fuels my creativity, encouraging me to think differently, take risks, and embrace the unexpected.

Following a triple heart bypass surgery, art became both a source of recovery and a renewed purpose. Today, I'm giving everything I've got to creating artwork that brings energy, calm, and connection into people's homes.
